Playa Uvita is without a doubt one of the most beautiful beaches of Costa Rica. Located on the Southern Pacific Coast just North of the Osa Peninsula, the whole area is considered by many people as being one of the most biologically diverse region of the world. This pristine long white sand beach is truly magnificent and is well worth visiting. Just 16kms south of Dominical and a short journey from Quepos and Manuel Antonio, it is located within the Marino Ballena National Park, which is the place to be if you fancy humpback whale and dolphin watching; this usually takes place between December and April. There are many tours and boat trips available in the area for you to live this experience of a lifetime! The whales migrate all the way to Costa Rica to mate and then make the journey back north. Being at close range of these huge and gentle creatures is truly mesmerizing.
Uvita’s little community is really coming up in the world, and the way it is developing doesn’t compare to other neighboring beaches; two mini supermarkets and grocery stores, two banks, a furniture store, hardware shops, restaurants and good hotels, and it has just opened an indoor recreation center where they hold a local market of organic fruits, vegetables and local artesania every Saturday. With its close distance from one of the wonders of the world, the Corcovado National Park and Osa, Uvita is the perfect choice for those seeking a fine balance between nature and comfort.
There is a nice array of activities including horseback riding, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, swimming, taking long walks along the beautiful deserted beach or just enjoying the sun, There is a lot to explore everywhere and you will see many beautiful exotic birds, including the red macaw. If you like boats, take a trip to the nearby small islands; Violines, Ballena and Cano. Because the Marino Ballena National Park is a protected area, fishing of any kind is strictly prohibited in Uvita, as is in the surrounding areas.
With its stunning landscape, lazy estuaries, white beaches and lush forest, Uvita is truly one of the best destinations of Costa Rica and certainly a top choice if you are looking for some place to settle down and are a nature lover!
