Miramar was just a small sleepy village, when in 1890 gold was discover in the area and it became a mining town, thus the name of the region, Monte de Oro or Mountain of gold. Over the last decade it has seen a lot of changes and a phenomenal development; it has now become a very friendly and safe little community. It is located in the Central Pacific, 300mts above sea level, some 10 miles north of the city of Puntarenas and just 60 miles south of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica.
